Go Green Creatively
You want to do your part to save the Earth from melting into oblivion, right? I mean, I know I do…ahem, I gotta go.
You already know the basic tips to live eco-friendly, like recycling and turning the water off when you brush your teeth, but there are more ways than those for you to do your part. We’ve compiled a list of creative ways to save on energy and prevent further pollution.
Your car is a major contributor to the air’s pollution; however, you can’t live without a car, right? There are lots of ways you can adjust your car to be more eco-friendly, if you cannot afford a hybrid. Removing all bike racks and roof racks will cut down on wind resistance, and thus save on fuel. Save your money while you’re at it! It’s also a good idea to lighten the load your car is carrying. Take five minutes to finally empty out your trunk full of treasure. Guaranteed you don’t need those beach chairs in there anymore. When it comes to driving, the best way to prevent contributing to pollution is carpooling. Get places faster and have a better time while you’re at it!
Did anyone say milkman? You haven’t heard that word in a good half century, but the idea is back. If you are purchasing your milk from the supermarket, it’s probably in a Tetra Pak style or in plastic made from high density polythene (HDPE). Both of these items are extremely hard to recycle and require a lot of energy. Many people even buy in bulk and then freeze it, which only uses more energy. An alternative is a milkman service that uses reusable glass bottles. Find out if your neighborhood has a friendly milkman!
Paper seems to go through your printer like water in a fountain. Stop doing that! If you don’t need it, then don’t print it. If you will never look at the document you are going to print, then don’t print it just to file it away in the cabinet abyss. If you really do need to print a document, then use the Print Preview button and try formatting it landscape so that it will fill more space on the page. Also, never forget the age old words of “double-sided.”
There are small ways you can help save the world in your office, car, and/or home; you just have to be inventive. Me? I’ll just steal your inventive ideas.
