Parents need to become as familiar with the Internet as they are with local shopping malls, because only then can they become part of their kids' online life. Parents are usually skilled at pointing out the real dangers of shopping malls and so kids listen. But the Internet is an area where kids often feel that they know more than adults (and often they do), but they are frequently unaware of the dangers online, and so they may become in activities which trap them. An example of this is a survey by University of Pennsylvania researchers, which found that 325,000 U.S. kids aged seventeen or younger are models in commercial pornography, working for drug money, spending money or other purposes.
